The Balkans is far from herd immunity against COVID 19

A group of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina has filed criminal charges against the authorities. They demand responsibility for the vaccine delays and the high number of deaths from the virus. Despite the mass-scale vaccination, Serbia is far from herd immunity with only 15% of immunized people. In order to slow the spread of the corona virus, 70 to 80 percent of the population need to be vaccinated. The assumptions are that every third person in RN Macedonia had contact with the corona virus. In the video podcast of #ResPublicaMK we talk about the perspectives and dynamics of the vaccination process in the region.

The Jewish community is waiting for an apology and recognition from Bulgaria for more than 70 years

Goran Sadikarijo from the Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia says that every coin has two sides: for Bulgaria, one of the sides is the rescue of the Jews, and the other side is the deportation. "When they themselves will be ready and aware of the crimes committed by their predecessors, I think the time will be right to finally admit that", he added. Ernest Herzog from the World Jewish Congress says that history cannot be shown selectively and the moment we begin to pick which truths will be shown and which will be hidden under the carpet, a negative revision of history happens that cannot be justified.

Knaus and Biber: Sofia is under pressure to give up the veto against Skopje

An increasing number of European governments are calling in Sofia and saying that the veto is unreasonable. You have to give it up. If that does not happen, no one will blame Skopje, and that is important", said Gerald Knaus of the European Stability Initiative. We are definitely not at war, but we are not at peace either

Twenty five years after the war in Croatia ended, the high politics decided to try to break the Croatian-Serbian spiral of hatred. Montenegro cannot be a disturbance factor in the region

After three decades, the citizens of Montenegro voted out the Democratic Party of Socialists in the elections, headed by the current president Milo Đukanović. Apparently, the Government will be established by three diverse coalitions "For the Montenegro Future" which includes the predominantly pro-Serbian Democratic Front, the civic "Peace is our nation" led by Democratic Montenegro and the pro-Montenegrin "Black on White" led by the Civic Movement URA. The dominant topic discussed before and after the vote was the controversial Law on Freedom of Religion, due to which tens of thousands of citizens throughout Montenegro have protested in the past six months. Citizens have high expectations from the new Government, and the tense days that happened after 30 August, according to longtime journalist Duško Vuković, will continue only if laws are adopted by which the previous Government will have to prove how they acquired enormous wealth.

Serbia 2020 - a regime in a time of democracy

For years now, Serbia has been shaken by one scandal after another. Despite that, absolute power is in the hands of one man - Aleksandar Vučić. Dissatisfaction spilled over into society, and recent demonstrations are a reflection of that. In addition, the country is currently in a health crisis, caused by COVID-19. Actors Svetozar Cvetković and Tihomir Stanić talk about what it is like to be an artist and a citizen of Serbia.

The coronavirus exposed primitiveness and selfishness towards loved ones

KOVID 19 otkri primitivnost i sebicnost kon najbliskite intro

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the strategic commitments of the state in dealing with the crisis was to provide care for the mental health of the population. To that end, psychological support helplines were set up in the Psychiatric Clinic. In an interview with "Res Publica", the director of the clinic, Stojan Bajraktarov, explained that our people are not accustomed to isolation. They are used to closeness and it is normal that the new way of life is difficult for them. He pointed out that in certain groups there is a primitive defense mechanism, i.e. denial of the virus. They do not adhere to the precautionary measures and do not stop to think that they are selfish towards their loved ones. According to him, it is a minority and most citizens disapprove of their own behavior, which instills hope for collective mental health.

Климатските политики на штета на сиромашните

БЈОРН ЛОМБОРГ (BJØRN LOMBORG)

(Katja Iversen)
