Aleksandra Gjurkova works at the Institute for Macedonian Language "Krste Misirkov" at the University "St. Cyril and Methodius University” in Skopje. She has completed Classical Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje (1996), Master's Studies (2001) and Doctoral Studies (2006) at the Faculty of Philology in Skopje. She has studied at the Institute of Slavic Studies at the University of Vienna (1999/2000), at the Institute of Slavic Studies at the University of Lausanne (2002/03), and at the Old Slavonic Institute in Zagreb (2010). She is engaged as a researcher of several projects in the field of history of the Macedonian language and as the main researcher of the project Language Planning and Language Policies in the Republic of Macedonia. She has published over 50 bibliographic units in the field of Church Slavonic syntax, sociolinguistics and stylistics in domestic and foreign scientific journals (Macedonian Language, Philological Studies, Spectrum, Stylistyka, Slavia, Slovo). She is a member of the Committee on Sociolinguistics and Stylistics of the International Slavic Committee.
