Petar Gosev holds a master's degree in economics. He is a former governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia and former Minister of Finance. He is the founder and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, and in three terms he was elected a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia. Goshev was the head of the delegation of the Republic of Macedonia to the Federal Assembly of the former SFRY and chairman of the Monetary Policy Commission (1991). In the 1980s, he was active in the Federal Council for Social and Economic Affairs of the former SFRY and in the presidency of the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia. He was also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the last leader of the Socialist Party of Macedonia when it was transformed into the Social Democratic Union.
